Ok, let’s get the unfair competition out of the way first. When you think of animated movies, right up on the Hall of fame list are icons like Tom and Jerry, and Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. For decades they have been not the just most iconic characters from the world of animation, but also probably among the best loved Hollywood characters of all time.
When you think of animated movies, right up on the Hall of fame list are icons like Tom and Jerry, and Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
That said, this is, admittedly, a tough one. Picking a top list of most memorable characters from a vast array of truly outstanding heroes. Here is our pick of the top three:
Mufasa – With a score of 8.5 on IMDB, The Lion King remains one of the greatest animated classics in Hollywood. And perhaps even more than the powerful story of self-discovery, the riveting script and outstanding animation and searing musical score, it is Mufasa’s gigantic character that towers over everyone and everything else. And the impact he makes on audiences is evident from the mere few minutes he is in the story and on the screen. He remains an icon of power, leadership, character, courage, fatherly love, and sheer magnificence!
Po – If Mufasa was revered like a God, Kung Fu Panda’s Po has been loved, nearly to death, by audiences for his innocence, overwhelming cuteness, humour, and shameless gluttony. Yet beneath his ridiculous, almost flippant and laughable persona, is a passionate soul so in love with the art of Kung Fu that he would do anything to learn and master it. Even as he becomes the Dragon Warrior, he loses none of his humility, charm, vulnerability and affection. Isn’t he the cutest martial artist of all time!
The Beast – Towering over everyone in every scene, the giant half man and half beast from The Beauty and the Beast is an imposing character whom audiences can never forget. His booming voice, the beastly growl, and the very novel combination of Lion, Bear, Wolf, Deer, Bison, Boar and Gorilla in his physical appearance create an utterly convincing character. Most endearing of all is the tenderness of his heart trapped behind a monstrous appearance. Here is a hero whose very visage combines the ghastly with an inner nobility which never quite fades from his character!
Of course we cannot sign off without some heroes we think need a worthy mention: Gru (Despicable Me), Lego Batman (The Lego Batman Movie), Judy Hopps (Zootopia), Lightning McQueen (Cars), Woody (Toy Story), Baymax (Big Hero 6), Sid and Diego (Ice Age), Nemo (Finding Nemo), Toothless (How To Train Your Dragon), Puss (Puss In Boots), and Iron Giant (The Iron Giant).
